HOW TO ENABLE FIREWALL ON ROUTER?

The firewall feature acts as a defense against hackers and cybercriminals. The guidelines to enable firewall on router are mentioned below.

Step 1 - Accessing the web-based setup page

  • Step 1: Launch a web browser on your computer connected to the router.
  • Step 2: In the address field of the web browser, type the router’s IP address and press the Enter key on the keyboard.
  • Step 3: This will load the router’s login page.
  • Step 4: Fill the Username and Password fields with the correct login credentials.
  • Step 5: Click the Login or Sign-in button available to access the web-based setup page of the router.

Default credentials

  • Step 1:The default IP address, username, and password of a few of the wireless routers are provided here for your reference it help to enable firewall on router.

Huawei :

  • IP address - 192.168.1.1
  • Username - admin
  • Password - admin

D-Link :

  • IP address - 192.168.0.1
  • Username - admin
  • Password - leave this field empty

Netgear :

  • IP address - 192.168.0.1
  • Username -  admin
  • Password - password

Linksys :

  • IP address -  192.168.1.1
  • Username - admin
  • Password -leave this field blank

Asus :

  • IP address - 192.168.1.1
  • Username -  admin
  • Password - admin
  • Note: If you have changed the credentials, use them instead of the default one.

Step 2 - Enabling the firewall feature

Linksys router

  • Step 1:Click the Security tab followed by the Firewall tab.
  • Step 2:Navigate to the SPI Firewall Protection field and select the radio button next to the Enable option.
  • Step 3:Choose the required Internet Filter from the following options.
  • Step 4:Filter Anonymous Internet Requests
  • Step 5:Filter Multicast
  • Step 6:Filter Internet NAT Redirection for IPv4 Internet Only
  • Step 7:Filter IDENT
  • Step 8:Select your Web Filter from the Proxy, Java, ActiveX, and Cookies options.
  • Step 9:Save the firewall settings by clicking the Save Settings button at the bottom of the screen.

Huawei router

  • Step 1:Click the More Function tab at the top,  select the Security Settings option followed by the Firewall option on the left panel, andthen turn on the toggle switch beside the Firewall option on the main panel.

D-Link router

  • Step 1:Go to Advanced -> Firewall Settings, select the checkbox beside the Enable SPI option,and click the Save Settings option.
  • Step 2:If prompted, reboot the D-Link router.

Asus router

  • Step 1:Click the General tab at the upper-left corner of the screen, go to the Enable Firewall field, and select the radio button next to the Yes option.
  • Step 2:Click Apply to save the firewall settings.

Netgear router

  • Step 1:Click Security -> Firewall Rules, create your firewall rules, and select the Apply option after enable firewall on router.
