How To Configure Router As Extender

  • Step 1:Using a router is very helpful if you are using a number of wireless devices.
  • Step 2:The proximity range between a router and your device is necessary because the wireless connection will disconnect after a certain distance.
  • Step 3:There is a good chance you can use a secondary router as an extender to boost your Wi-Fi signal.
  • Step 4:A secondary router is another access point that needs a wired connection setup at first with the primary router to boost up your wireless signals.
  • Step 5:First step is to perform a hard reset.
  • Step 6:Power your router with a power supply and perform a hard reset.
  • Step 7:The reset removes all configurations of the router.
  • Step 8:Hold the reset button for a few seconds and unplug the router.
  • Step 9:Plug the router back again while holding the reset button.

  • Step 22:Change the router IP address to a different subnet to not match your primary router. For example, the router’s IP is 198.168.1.1. The secondary router’s IP must be 198.168.2.1.
  • Step 23:Click Apply Changes to save settings.
  • Step 24:Once your router restarts, the SSID you entered will appear.
  • Step 25:Connect your computer or smartphone to the secondary router and check if it connects.
  • Step 26:If the connection is secure, the secondary router can be used wirelessly and can be set in a different place to boost your Wi-Fi signals.
  • Step 27:You can now use the router as an extender.
