HOW TO CONNECT MULTIPLE ETHERNET CABLES TO THE ROUTER?

Usually, most of the routers have four Ethernet ports that let you connect four devices over a wired network. If you need to connect more than four devices to the network, then you need to either upgrade your router or use a network switch.  Carry out these below-mentioned steps how to connect multiple ethernet cables to the router.

Network Switch helps you to expand your network connection over a wired network. 

Generally, the connection setup of a device is in the order mentioned below.

  • Step 1: First, connect yourmodem and wireless router using an Ethernet cable.
  • Step 2: connect the wireless router to a network switch.
  • Step 3: Connect all your devices to the network switch.

In short: Modem > router > network switch > devices.

To configure network switch with a router, follow the instructions given below.

To perform this configuration, you’ll be using a cable modem, network switch, and a wireless router.

  • Step 1:Turn your cable modem, network switch, and wireless router off.
  • Step 2:Unplug all the power cables from the network switch, wireless router, and the modem.
  • Step 3:Now, connect your modem to the telephone wire outlet.
  • Step 4:Get an Ethernet cable and connect it between your modem to the wireless router.
  • Step 5:Now, connect your wireless router to the network switch using another Ethernet cable.
  • Step 6:Connect all the three devices to the power outlet and turn them ON.
  • Step 7:Wait for your device to detect the network and complete the setup process.

Once the setup is complete, you can connect more than 4 devices to the same network. 

Note: If you wish to connect more devices to the same network, then connect them to the network switch using Ethernet cable.
