How To Find The Dns Server Of My Router?

Procedure 1 - Using the web interface of a router

Step 1 - Finding the default user name and password

The default login credentials of some of the wireless routers are given here, to know how to find the DNS server of my router.

Linksys

  • Step 1:User name - Leave this field blank
  • Step 2:Password - admin

TP-Link

  • Step 1:User name - admin
  • Step 2:Password - admin

D-Link

  • Step 1:User name - admin
  • Step 2:Password - no password (you have to leave this field blank)
  • Step 3:Note: The router’s username and password can be found on the user manual.

Step 2 - Router connection

Make sure you have connected your Windows computer to the router’s wireless network.

Step 3 - Finding the IP address of the router

  • Step 1:In the Windows search bar, type ‘control panel’ without the quotes and select the same from the displayed search results.
  • Step 2:Go to the Network and Internet field and then click the ‘View network status and tasks’ link.
  • Step 3:Select your wireless connection, click the Details button, and navigate to the IPv4 Default Gateway field.
  • Step 4:You could see the router’s IP address in this field. Make a note of it.
  • Step 5:You can also find the IP address by entering the ipconfig command in the Command Prompt window.

Step 4 - Accessing the web interface page of the router

  • Step 1:Open a web browser on your computer.
  • Step 2:Enter the router’s IP address in the address field.
  • Step 3:When prompted, enter the default login credentials in the User name and Password fields and click Sign in or Log in.
  • Step 4:Note: If you have changed the default login credentials, use the new one to sign in to the web interface page of the router.

Step 5 - DNS address

Navigate to the Status web page and you can locate the DNS server address on this page.

Procedure 2 - Using Command Prompt

  • Step 1:Launch the Command Prompt window on the computer.
  • Step 2:Type the ‘ipconfig /all’ command without the single quotes and then press the Enter key on the keyboard.
  • Step 3:You will find the router’s DNS addresses in the DNS Servers field. And finally you know how to find DNS server of my router.
