How To Setup A Router In Bridge Mode

Bridge mode is an option that allows you to extend your network and connect multiple devices to it. You can configure the Bridge mode feature on any router. To set up the Bridge mode feature, you need two routers. Among the two routers, one will be acting as the main router and the other router will be the bridge router. The basic steps to how to setup a router in bridge mode are discussed below.

Note: The web-based configuration process may vary according to the router model, but the overall process is the same.

The basic steps to set up a router's in bridge mode are discussed below. Consider the main router as R1 and the bridge router as R2.

  • Step 1:Configure the R1 router and set up your network.
  • Step 2:Now, connect the R2 router to your computer.
  • Step 3:Make sure to gather the R1 router’s details such as SSID, Wi-Fi security mode, wireless password, and operating frequency
  • Step 4:Now, on your PC, open a web browser and enter the router’s (R2) IP address.
  • Step 5:If prompted, enter your router’s credentials and click Sign in or Log in.
  • Step 6:On your router’s web-based access page, click the tab or menu that will take you to the Wireless Bridge or similar page.
  • Step 7:On the Wireless Bridge page, enable the Bridge Mode option.
  • Step 8:Enter your R1 router’s information in the corresponding fields.
  • Step 9:Finally, click the Apply button.
  • Step 10:Your R2 router has been set up successfully in bridge mode.

  • Step 1:First, gather the main router’s information like SSID, Wi-Fi Security mode, wireless password, and operating frequency.
  • Step 2:Now, connect your computer to the NETGEAR router.
  • Step 3:On your computer, open a web browser and type the Netgear router’s IP address.
  • Step 4:Tap the Enter button.
  • Step 5:Now, enter your router’s credentials as prompted on the screen.
  • Step 6:Click the Sign-in or Log in button.
  • Step 7:On your router’s web access page, click the ADVANCED tab followed by the Advanced Setup sub-tab.
  • Step 8:Select the Wireless Bridge option.
  • Step 9:Now, the Wireless Bridge page will open.
  • Step 10:Locate and click the checkbox beside the Setup Bridge Mode Wireless Settings option.
  • Step 11:Now, you will be asked to enter your main router’s information.
  • Step 12:Enter all the information in the corresponding fields.
  • Step 13:Click the Apply button followed by Apply.
