How To Setup A Wireless Access Point?

To configure a Wi-Fi access point, follow the procedure given below to know how to set up a wireless access point.

  • Step 1:First, disconnect your computer from the Internet connection.
  • Step 2:Connect your router to an electrical outlet and turn it ON.
  • Step 3:Now, locate the access point within the range of the wireless router. 
  • Step 4:Connect your access point to an electrical outlet, press the Power button on the access point, and turn it ON.
  • Step 5:Now, using an Ethernet cable, connect the router to the access point. Make sure to connect the Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports of the router and the Ethernet port of the access point.
  • Step 6:Using another Ethernet cable, connect the router to your computer.
  • Step 7:Once you have done it, your computer will be connected to the network. 
  • Step 8:Some access points are provided with a CD. If your access point has a CD, you can use it and complete the further configuration process by following the on-screen instructions.
  • Step 9:If your access point doesn’t have a CD, then open a web browser on your computer and navigate to the web-based setup page of the access point.
  • Step 10:Set the access point settings as per your desire.
  • Step 11:Once it is done, you can extend your wireless coverage using the access point.

To set up a Linksys access point, follow the steps

  • Step 1:First, connect your wireless router to the access point using an Ethernet cable.
  • Step 2:Next, connect your computer and the access point.
  • Step 3:On your computer, open a web browser and go to the access point’s web access page.
  • Step 4:On the web access page, click the Wireless tab.
  • Step 5:When prompted, enter your network name.
  • Step 6:Go to the Wireless Security tab.
  • Step 7:Select the WPA-Personal option from the Security mode drop-down menu.
  • Step 8:Enter a password of your desire in the Passphrase field.
  • Step 9:Click the Save button.
