HOW TO USE A ROUTER AS A REPEATER

Follow the instructions provided below to know how to use router as a repeater.

STEP 1 - FINDING THE GATEWAY IP ADDRESS OF THE WIRELESS ROUTER

  • Step 1:On a Windows 7 and 10 computer, navigate to the Control Panel window.
  • Step 2:Find and select the ‘Network’ or ‘Network and Internet’ option.
  • Step 3:Click Network and Sharing Center Change Adaptor Settings

STEP 2 - ACCESSING THE ROUTER CONFIGURATION PAGE

  • Step 5:After changing the IP address of the wireless router, wait for some time and reboot the system.
  • Step 6:Once you have started the computer, use the changed IP address to access the router page.

STEP 7 - CONNECTING THE PRIMARY AND SLAVE ROUTERS

  • Step 1:The ideal method of connecting two routers is by using a long network cable to establish a network connection between the primary router and the slave router.
  • Step 2:But, in practice, you have to use powerline networking adapters to make a connection between the primary and slave wireless routers.

  • Step 1:If your router does not have WDS, you are recommended to install the custom firmware.

  • Step 2:Navigate to the Wireless section and then click the Basic Settings button.
  • Step 3:Set the Wireless Mode field as Repeater.

  • Step 15:Make sure not to remove the checkmark next to the Filter Multicast option in the Block WAN Request section.
  • Step 16:Disable the SPI firewall feature to perform repeater setup using the dd-wrt firmware.
