Netgear router power light blinking

If your Netgear router’s power or amber light keeps blinking, then there is a problem in the router. To fix the router’s power light blinking issue, read the troubleshooting instructions given below.

  • Step 1:Check if you are using a genuine power adapter to connect the router.
  • Step 2:Make sure to connect the Netgear router directly to the power source.
  • Step 3:Avoid using a surge protector to connect the Netgear router to the power source.
  • Step 4:Now, if your Netgear router is turned ON, then turn it OFF for a while.
  • Step 5:Wait for a few minutes. After that, turn on your Netgear router and check if the issue is resolved.
  • Step 6:If the power light keeps blinking on the Netgear router, then perform a factory reset.
  • Step 7:Locate the Reset button on your Netgear router.
  • Step 8:Hold the Reset button for 4 to 5 seconds.
  • Step 9:Now, check if the issue is resolved.
  • Step 10:If not, connect your router and the computer to a wired network.
  • Step 11:After that, set a static IP address on your system by following the procedure given below.
  • Step 12:Navigate to the Control Panel section on your Windows system.
  • Step 13:Select the Network and Sharing Center or Network and Internet option followed by Network and Sharing Center.
  • Step 14:Click the Change adapter settings tab.
  • Step 15:Locate and right-click on the Wi-Fi or Local Area Connection option.
  • Step 16:Choose the Properties option from the Context menu.
  • Step 17:Click Use the following IP address.
  • Step 18:Now, a dialog box will appear on the screen prompting you to enter the IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and DNS server in the given field.
  • Step 19:Type them and click the OK button.
  • Step 20:Now, launch the cmd application on your Windows or Mac system.
  • Step 21:In the Command Prompt window, enter the ping 192.168.1.1 command and press the Enter button on your system’s keyboard.
  • Step 22:Check if the Netgear router’s power light blinking issue is resolved.
