Router IGMP Snooping - Brief Steps

IGMP Snooping is used in network switchesto listen to IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) network traffic. As a result, it will control the delivery of IP multicasts. Mostly, network switches listen to the IGMP conversation between hosts and routersin order todetermine which links need which IP multicast streams. The router IGMP snooping feature is for network switches. Routers do not flood multicastbutcan forward multicast using IGMP snooping.

  • STEP 1 : Ensure that your Asus router’s power cable is connected to a power outlet.
  • STEP 2 : Check if the Power LED on the Asus router’s panel is lit. This ensures that the router is turned on.
  • STEP 3 : Connect an Ethernet cable between the Asus router and your computer.
  • STEP 4 : Open Internet Explorer , Mozilla Firefox , Apple Safari , or Google Chrome on the computer.
  • STEP 5 : Type your Asus router’s IP address in the address field.
  • STEP 6 : Press the Enter
  • STEP 7 : Note : By default, 168.1.1 is the IP address for the Asus router. If you have forgotten the IP address, refer to Asus Device Discovery.
  • STEP 8 : Fill the Username and Password fields with the router’s correct login details.
  • STEP 9 : Note: If you had forgotten the login credentials, restore the router to factory default settings and use the default login details. By default, the Asus router’s login details are admin, i.e., you have to enter admin in both the Username and Password
  • STEP 10 : Once you click the Sign In button, you can access the Asus router’s web GUI. Continue with the following steps to enable router IGMP Snooping on the Asus router .
  • STEP 11 : Click the Wireless tab in the left panel.
  • STEP 12 : Navigate to the Professional tab at the top.
  • STEP 13 : Go to the Enable IGMP Snooping drop-down menu.
  • STEP 14 : Select the Enable
  • STEP 15 : If necessary, customize the other wireless settings.
  • STEP 16 : At the bottom of the screen, click the Apply button to save the changed settings.
  • STEP 17 : This will enable the IGMP Snooping feature on the Asus router .
  • STEP 18 : Now, router IGMP Snooping will monitor the communication among your wireless devices. Also, it will optimize wireless multicast traffic.
