How To Solve Router Not Getting Internet From Modem?

  • Step 1:First, unplug the power cords from your modem and router. Wait for a few minutes and reconnect your modem’s power cord.
  • Step 2:Let it turn on and then reconnect your router’s power cord. Turn on your router and wait until it gets ready.
  • Step 3:Ensure that you have properly connected the network cable between your router and modem.
  • Step 4:If necessary, reconnect the network cable to the router’s LAN port and check if the router’s Internet light is turned on.
  • Step 5:If the problem persists, connect your modem and Windows computer directly. Check if your computer can receive an Internet connection. If so, troubleshoot your router.
  • Step 6:To reset your router to factory defaults, identify the Reset button first. Take a paper clip or metal pin to press and hold the Reset button for at least 15 seconds.
  • Step 7:The router’s lights will flash when it is reset to factory defaults.
  • Step 8:Once finished, connect your router to your computer using a standard Ethernet cable.
  • Step 9:Verify whether you have the latest router firmware. If you are running outdated firmware, update it first.
  • Step 10:You can do it using a firmware update utility or by manual method.
  • Step 11:To update the firmware manually, visit your router’s official site and download the latest firmware.
  • Step 12:Once downloaded, access your router’s settings page and proceed with the firmware update process.
  • Step 13:If the router not getting Internet from modem problem remains unsolved, run Windows Network troubleshooter to determine the problem on your router. Open the Settings app on your computer by pressing the Windows + I shortcut keys.
  • Step 14:Click on Network and Internet in the Settings window and select Status from the left-side panel.
  • Step 15:Choose Network Troubleshooter and follow the on-screen prompts to diagnose and rectify the Internet issue.
  • Step 16:If necessary, clear the DNS cache and ensure that you have a valid IP address.
