How To Do Router QoS Setup?

Router QoS setup - It can prevent the unequal allocation of resources. The QoS prioritizes the traffic and gives way for the most important one to get the maximum resource. In this way, the QOS reduces the packet loss, latency, and jitter on the network. The approach towards the QoS differs for different router models. Some routers choose to manage the traffic and prioritize the source using three levels: High, Medium, and Low. The newer model, which supports the Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) standard, mostly has an option of automated QoS handling. The following section explains the procedure for the Netgear router’s QoS setup.

  • Step 1:Open a web browser and enter the router’s default IP address. You may find the default IP address on the underside of your Router or in the user manual.
  • Step 2:Enter the user name and password and go to the settings page.
  • Step 3:Click on to the 'Wireless' tab to edit the settings.
  • Step 4:Find the QoS settings under the wireless settings section or the Advanced network settings.
  • Step 5:Select the QoS Settings.
  • Step 6:Tap on the Set Up QoS Rule key. The QoS rule customizes the priority level. The Rule key will allow you to assign priority to a specific type of connection.

Assign Network

  • Step 1:In the main QoS setting tab, you'll see the applications you regularly use on the screen.
  • Step 2:Make sure to select the box next to each application and click Edit.
  • Step 3:Assign the application according to your priority level.
  • Step 4:Alternatively, click on the 'Add Priority Rule' button at the bottom of your QoS page and go through each network's basic setup.
  • Step 5:Click Apply and reboot your router. Proceed with next steps for the router QoS setup for the computer.

QoS Setup - Computers Connected To An Ethernet LAN Port

  • Step 1:Select the Advanced network settings > the QoS Settings.
  • Step 2:Tap on the Set Up QoS Rule key. The QoS rule customizes the priority level. The Rule key will allow you to assign priority to a specific type of connection.

Assign Network

  • Step 1:Make sure to select the box next to each application and click Edit.
  • Step 2:Assign the application according to your priority level.
  • Step 3:Alternatively, click on the 'Add Priority Rule' button at the bottom of your QoS page and go through each network type's basic setup.
  • Step 4:Select Ethernet LAN Port under the priority category.
  • Step 5:Choose the LAN port you want to use under the LAN port.
  • Step 6:Make sure to choose the priority level: Highest, High, Normal, or Low.
  • Step 7:Select Apply to finish the process. Following the above instructions will successfully complete the router QoS setup.
