SETUP ROUTER AS A BRIDGE

  • Step 1:Before you perform the troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue, check if you have opened your router’s port correctly by following the instructions given below.
  • Step 2:When a router is set up as a bridge, it is connected to another primary router in the network.
  • Step 3:So, you need a minimum of two routers to set the Bridge Mode in a router.
  • Step 4:The Bridge Mode facilitates extending the reach of the wireless network.

To Setup router as a bridge in Netgear, Carry out the steps given below.

  • Step 1:Make sure the primary Netgear router is connected to your desktop computer or laptop.
  • Step 2:Open the web browser and type the primary router’s web address.
  • Step 3:On the login page of the primary router’s web interface, enter the username and password of the primary router. The username and password are found in the user’s manual or on the label affixed on the router or on the router manufacturer’s website.
  • Step 4:When you log in to the primary router’s web interface, make a note of the primary router settings. These will be required to set up the bridge mode for the router. The required settings are :
    • SSID
    • Wi-Fi security mode
    • Wireless password
    • Operating frequency
  • Step 5:Now, connect the Netgear router to be set up as a bridge to your desktop computer or laptop.
  • Step 6:As you did for the primary router, launch the web browser on your computer and enter the URL of the bridge router in the address bar. This will prompt a login window.
  • Step 7:Enter the default username and password in the login window and click login.
  • Step 8:When you see the web interface Home page of the bridge router, click on the Advanced tab.
  • Step 9:Now, select Advanced Setup and then click on Wireless Bridge.
  • Step 10:On the Wireless Bridge setup page, click on Enable Bridge Mode checkbox.
  • Step 11:Then, click on the Setup Bridge Mode Wireless Settings button and input the settings of your primary router.

  • Step 13:Wireless network frequency
  • Step 14:SSID
  • Step 15:Wi-Fi security mode. This option is listed under the Security Options section.
  • Step 16:The password of your primary router.
  • Step 17:After entering all these settings of the primary router into your bridge router, click the Apply button.
  • Step 18:Again, click the Apply button to finish the Bridge Mode setup. This will reboot your bridge router. Once it is back, it will connect to your primary router and will act as a bridge in your network.
