Configure Xfinity Router Firewall Settings

  • First, connect your Xfinity router to a computer using a standard Ethernet cable.
  • Next, connect the Xfinity router to an electrical outlet with the help of a power cord.
  • Ensure that you have firmly plugged the Ethernet cable into the router's LAN port and the computer's network port.
  • Power up your computer and check whether it detects the network.
  • Open the default browser and enter the router's IP address in the URL field.
  • Press the Enter key to open the Xfinity router's login portal.
  • You can identify the router's IP address on the label attached to the backside of the router. 
  • If you have connected a computer that is running on Windows OS, identify the IP address with the help of the Command Prompt app.
  • Click the Start menu and type 'cmd' in the search panel to configure Xfinity router firewall settings.
  • Hit the Enter key and give a right-click on the Command Prompt app.
  • From the pop-up menu, select the Run as administrator option.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type 'ipconfig' and press the Enter key.
  • Navigate to the Default Gateway field and note down the router's IP address.
  • If you have connected a Mac computer to the Xfinity router, click the Apple menu at the top-left corner of the screen.
  • Select System Preferences from the drop-down menu and click on Network.
  • In the Network window, click the Advanced button at the bottom-right corner of the window and note down the router's IP address.
  • After opening the router's login portal in the browser window, enter 'admin' in the Username field and type 'password' in the Password field.
  • If you have already changed the router's default password, enter the new login credentials and click the Submit button to access the router's settings page.
  • Click the Gateway tab and select the Firewall option in the Gateway section.
  • Select either IPv4 or IPv6 and choose the security level among the Maximum Security (High), Typical Security (Medium), Minimum Security (Low), or Custom Security based on your wish.
  • After selecting your desired firewall settings, click the Save Settings button.
  • Now, you successfully configured Xfinity router firewall settings.
